  13. ZURICH, CH, Feb 07, 1996 -- The first release of GIFSaver.tiox, an
  14. 'I/O-extension' module for TIFFanyII has been made publicly available at

  26. The GIFSaver.tiox module extends TIFFanyII to allow saving of GIF files via the
  27. "Save To..."-panel. It has been written to simplify the creation of images for
  28. WorldWidWeb pages, thus supporting interlaced-GIFs and transparency.

  30. The extension features...
  31. - Automatic conversion of the image's alpha-channel (if present) into GIF89
  32.   transparency information.
  33. - An improved median-cut algorithm for selecting a good color palette.
  34. - Writing of interlaced and non-interlaced GIF images.
  35. - Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  36. - A NetScape-Mode, that uses the same palette as the NetScape Navigator uses
  37.   on 8-bit systems.

  39. The GIFSaver.tiox is compiled for HP, Intel, NeXT and Sparc computers. This
  40. module requires TIFFanyII V2.30 or later. (With the exception that it does
  41. not work with Version 2.30N ... and nobody seems to know why :-))

  44. Installation
  45. After unzip'ing and untar'ing, just copy the GIFSaver.tiox bundle into
  46. your ~/Library/TIFFany/Modules or /LocalLibrary/TIFFany/Modules folder.
  47. The option 'Save GIF' will be available in the 'Save To...'-panel after
  48. relaunching TIFFanyII.
